Claim it and take it

Joshua 14:6-14 - KJV - Then the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite said unto him, Thou knowest the thing that the LORD said unto Moses the man of God concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea. Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadeshbarnea to espy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in mine heart. Nevertheless my brethren that went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the LORD my God. And Moses sware on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon thy feet have trodden shall be thine inheritance, and thy children's for ever, because thou hast wholly followed the LORD my God. And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in. Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said. And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day, because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

It is a wonderful thing to trust in the Lord. God will always honor genuine faith. He is honored by our faith and we can rest assured that He will never miss an opportunity to reward the faith that we have in Him. The wonderful thing about this passage of scripture is that Caleb declares that even though he has grown older, he is still as strong as he was forty-five years ago. I personally believe that it is his unfailing faith that made him so strong at eighty-five years of age. It is his undisturbed faith in the God of Israel that could cause him to make such a declaration. And at the age of eighty-five, Caleb was ready like never before to fight against the enemy that was holding his blessing and obtain that which God had promised him forty-five years ago. Even though so much time had passed by, Caleb did not become weak in his faith. Even though he had grown older, he still had the vibrant and vivid and unshaken faith that he had when Moses had sent him to spy out the land with Joshua and ten other men.

This space is too narrow here to develop the character and the faith of this man called Caleb. But what we can say is that he is a very inspiring Bible character who tells us that it is really our faith that overcomes the obstacles and opens the doors of the seemingly impossible. Time had passed but Caleb did not forget God’s promise. And he still believed that with God on his side, he was still up to the task. His secret is that he did not trust in his abilities as a man, he trusted in God’s ability and power back then just as he did now that he was eighty-five years old. His age did not discourage him. Years had passed but Caleb’s mind was still on the promise of the Lord. The children of Israel had fought a lot of battles and conquered their promised land step by step. Now the time had come for Caleb’s land oh Hebron to be conquered. He did not allow or wait for someone else to go and take what belonged to him. He stood up and claimed his promise.

Let us stand up today and claim our promises before God no matter how things are looking around us. Let us not be discouraged by our age, or by the fact that we have been fighting a certain battle all alone. Maybe time has passed, and we are still expecting certain things to happen in our life. God has given us a personal promise and we have been waiting for it to take shape. It shall come to pass because God makes all things beautiful in its time. We have been discouraged at times, thinking that God has forgotten us.

Jesus used to tell people who came to him for a miracle: „Let it be done to you according to your faith“. As we know, without fait it is impossible to please God. God knows how to reward those who diligently trust in Him. Let us not be tossed to and fro by every wind that comes to challenge our faith. If God said it, then He will do it. Our God is faithful and just and He will always accomplish what He said He will do. His Word is full of promises from Genesis to Revelation. But weneed to do our part, which is to hold on to our faith and demonstrate that faith by taking some concrete steps. You can also impress God with your faith just like Caleb or the centurion in Matthew 8:5-13. God delights in blessing His children. He is waiting for you to claim what belongs to you. So, claim it and take it because it belongs to you. mt
