Matthew 7:24-28 Therefore whoever hears these sayings
of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house
on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew
and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the
rock. But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them,
will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain
descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house;
and it fell. And great was its fall. And so it was, when Jesus had ended
these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching,
The parable
of the wise man who built his house upon a rock and the foolish man who
built his house upon the sand is one of the most well known parables in
the Bible. When I recently read this passage in the Scriptures again,
I suddenly saw it through different eyes and in a completely new dimension.
When Jesus spoke about the rock upon which the house was built, I remembered
that He talked about a "rock" in another place. In Matthew 16:18,
Jesus refers to the revelation of Peter about who He really is, therefore,
revealing His true identity as a rock or a fundament upon which He builds
His church.
When you really find out and understand who Jesus is, then build your
life on the same unshakeable rock upon which the church is built. It does
not matter how high the waves may pound, or whether trouble, problems,
and tests come against you, you can nevertheless put your trust in this
- that you will never be overcome, for your life is not built upon the
sand of this temporal life, but rather upon the rock of ages, who alone
gives eternal life, Jesus Christ. KMcC
