Mathew 18:2-3 Then Jesus called a little child to
Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to
you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will
by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
It is important that we are humble, for God wants us to realize that we
would not exist without Him. In the gospel of Matthew, Jesus says that
the greatest in the kingdom of heaven are those who humble themselves
and become like small children. Small children are not proud, ambitious
and arrogant. Why would He place humility on the same level as children?
Children have a relationship of dependence to their parents, and that
is the reason why Jesus wants us to be like children. Of course, we grow
and become independent, but nevertheless, we are still His children and
He wants us to call Him Father. Matthew 19:14 But Jesus said, “Let
the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them: for of such is
the kingdom of heaven.” God expects us to have an unlimited trust
in Him. It doesn’t matter how old we become or how much we think that
we know, we will still always need our parents. Whether it is for advice,
support, or love and care, we are in a certain respect dependent upon
our parents. Additional verses to study: Psalm 123:2; 20:7; 56:11; Matthew 5:5,9; Mark 10:14; Romans 8:15
