You are a gracious and merciful God
Jonah 3,4-5, 10 And Jonah began to enter the city
on the first day’s walk. Then he cried out and said, “Yet forty days,
and Nineveh shall be overthrown!” So the people of Nineveh believed
God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the
least of them. Then God saw their works, that they turned from their
evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would
bring upon them, and He did not do it.
Acts 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may
be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence
of the Lord.
God has
proven Himself to be a God of second chances, forgiveness, and grace.
The Ninevites turned from their evil ways and God spared them from destruction.
Then they were thankful people!
God also has promised not to destroy or forsake Christians. If you are
a Christian, this is good news! God is worthy of your praise and worship.
Today, thank God for His unconditional love for you and spend some time
identifying an area of your life that needs to be changed. God graciously
gives second chances, but He prefers our obedience. jk
By the way, He also gave Jonah a second chance. While Jonah stated at
the end of the Book of Jonah (Jonah 4:2): …I know that You are a gracious
and merciful God”, he still had not learned his lesson yet. (Read the
whole chapter 4).
The goodness of God must lead us to repentance. (Romans 2:4) In Acts
5 we read that Ananias and Saphira lied to the Holy Ghost and died.
Hebrew 10:26-27 warns us: For if we sin willfully after we have
received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice
for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment. Let us
always thank Jesus for His perfect sacrifice for sins on the cross of
Golgotha and by His grace be faithful to the end.
As the song goes:
Your grace and mercy brought me through
I'm living this moment because of You
I want to thank You and praise You, too
Your grace and mercy brought me through
