There is hope
Hope draws us forward like a light at the end of a dark tunnel; like the sight of a sparkling spring in the desert. We never give up as long as there is hope.
People
do desperate acts when they lose hope. Paul and Silas, two disciples of Jesus
Christ, were in prison. They had been beaten and their feet were locked in stocks
so they could not escape. Yet they were not without hope. They knew Jesus Christ
shared their suffering. In fact, they were singing when suddenly a terrible
earthquake shook the prison. The prison keeper who had been sleeping in quiet
comfort was awakened by the earthquake. When he saw that the earthquake had
freed his prisoners he was suddenly without hope. If the prisoners who had been
so cruelly mistreated did not kill him then those who had committed these criminals
to his keeping would surely kill him for allowing the prisoners to escape.
He drew out his sword to take his life but was stopped by Paul as he called out, “Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.” That night Paul and Silas shared their hope with this prison keeper. He became a believer and he and his family were all baptized that very night. You will find this record in Acts 16:19-40.
You may feel that life holds you as its prisoner. Perhaps there is some circumstance you cannot escape…such as illness, poverty or family problems. Don’t give up. If you feel a crying out and a weariness with life’s struggles, call out to Jesus. He invites you to come to Him.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” Matthew 11:28-30.
No matter how hopeless your situation in life may be, Jesus will share it with you. When He is present with you He makes the dark days light and lifts the heavy burden on His shoulders. You have never had a friend like Him. You are never without hope unless you are without Jesus.
