There Is Only One
Where
can you go to get away from God? God fills all space. God fills all time. There
is no place without Him. There has been no time without Him. And there never
will be. God spoke through His prophet Isaiah, saying, "Ye are my witnesses,
saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe
me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither
shall there be after me. I, even I, am the Lord; and beside me there is no saviour,"
Isaiah 43:10, 11.
The God of the Bible leaves no room for any other god, either before Him or
after Him. Any person or power who claims to be God is an imposter, a false
and deceiving spirit. There is only one God; He has many descriptive titles
but He has only one name.
How could men know God?
God is a spirit. A spirit does not have flesh and bones. How could such a God
make His heart and life known to men? In their search for God, men have worshiped
almost every form of nature; trees, animals, the sun and stars and even other
men. Because some natural wonders cause fear, as thunder, lightning, volcanoes
and earthquakes, many men thought God was a dreadful person whose anger had
to be constantly appeased. Men have made many offerings, even to sacrificing
their children, to please a God they did not know.
GOD IN CHRIST
Because God so loved this sick, confused world, He determined that men would
know Him in a way they could see, hear and touch. He chose Mary, a pure, humble
virgin, to be the mother of His only begotten son. The angel told her, "Fear
not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive
in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus. He shall
be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: . . The Holy Ghost shall
come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore
also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of
God," Luke 1:30, 31, 35.
This is the beautiful story of how God clothed Himself in the body of a man
and lived on earth as a baby, a child and an adult. He shared the human experience
and showed men the glory and power and love of their God.
Have you ever caught the rays of the sun in the lens of a magnifying glass?
Perhaps you focused it upon some small bit of paper, wood or the back of your
hand. You cannot catch all the sunlight of the sky on your small lens, but what
you do catch, when it is focused, reveals the intense light and heat of the
sun. You have, in your hand, a small but accurate expression of the nature of
the sun.
So it is with Jesus Christ. The natural body of Jesus Christ became the lens
which brought into visible focus the love and light and power of God Himself.
God's greatness could not be condensed and fully contained in a body of flesh,
yet God could and did find full expression of His nature in the body of Jesus
Christ. Jesus Christ is not another god or another person who is part of God.
Jesus Christ is God Himself, made visible to men. For further study read these
New Testament passages: Colossians 1:12-17, 2:8-10 and John 1:1-3, 14.
There is only one God and He has only one name. "And the Lord shall be
king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one,"
Zechariah 14:9. "Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel,
that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised
from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. . . .Neither
is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given
among men, whereby we must be saved," Acts 4:10, 12.
Isaiah, the Old Testament prophet speaks of Him, "For unto us a child is
born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting
Father, the Prince of Peace," Isaiah 9:6.
We see this promised one, Jesus Christ, would be called child and son, and yet
He is the mighty God and the everlasting Father.
GOD IN YOU
The Spirit of God which lived in Christ is promised to you. "Then Peter
said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are
afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call," Acts 2:38, 39.
This is the wonderful mystery which had been hidden from ages and from generations,
but is now made known to us, "Christ in you, the hope of glory." Read
Colossians 1:26, 27.
