Miracle reports from Ethiopia

When we were in Ethiopia in 1999, Pastor Ayele, pastor of the biggest church in Addis Ababa, told me this testimony when we were travelling there, how his uncle had found Jesus Christ.

For many years, his uncle was addicted to alcohol. Nobody wanted to go near him because he smelt bad and especially stunk of alcohol. It was so bad that he slept on the streets and in back yards. He spent the whole day begging, and with this money, he bought more alcohol.

One day, he visited his sister, he reeked of alcohol and was absolutely filthy; he went into the house, hoping to get some money, His sister did not give him any money because she knew that he would only get drunk again on the money. She spoke to him and said: "Don' t you realize that Jesus loves you and can change your life?" She gave him a glass of water, immediately after he had drunk it, he left the house, completely forgetting that he had gone there to beg for money. In that very same week, he had a dream as he was laying asleep between the garbage cans. In the dream, he saw an angel who came up to him and said, "Come with me, I want to show you something." He stood up and followed the angel. After they had walked for a while, they were suddenly standing in front of a very high wall, leaning against it was a ladder, which reached to the top of this wall. The angel said to him, "Climb up to the top the ladder, then you will be able to see what is on the other side."

He climbed up the ladder, and when he reached the top and looked over the wall, he was able to see the most beautiful land that he had ever seen in his life. It was a rich and abundant land. At that point, he woke up and was wondering about the meaning of the dream. He returned to his sister and asked her, "Do you believe that Jesus really loves me and is able to change my life? She replied, "Yes." He then repented, got baptized in Jesus name, and immediately received the Holy Ghost.

He never drunk a drop of liqueur in his life again, and went to church and stayed faithful for 15 years. God wanted to see how serious he meant it with Him— he ended up passing the test. He died not so long ago, having the assurance that he would see that land again which he saw way back then; afterall, miracles never die! rw

It was a great privilege to attend the annual conference of the United Pentecostal Church in Ethiopia years ago. We saw and experienced so much that it would not be possible to describe everything in a few words. The first impression that we received was at the airport, when the brothers and sisters from the local branch of the Apostolic Church of Ethiopia greeted us with great joy. We surveyed the extreme materialistic poverty of the people, but also the immense spiritual wealth. In this country, our church is very large, comprising of approximately one million Christians who have been baptized in Jesus' name and filled with the Holy Ghost, in accordance with Acts 2:38.

When we eventually reached Wara with many other Christians, over 200, 000 believers were already there. By the following day, more than 400,000 people had gathered. Many of them were so poor that they did not even have shoes on their feet. However, by looking at their faces, you could clearly see how rich they were spiritually - and that they had Christ in their lives. They came with the intention to worship God in the services. Others came to receive healing and deliverance, and God gave it to them.

It was probably just the same way in the days of the Bible-when people gathered together to hear about Jesus and to receive healing. In the coming editions of the monthly newsletter, we will report about miracles which we saw and heard during our visit there.

All things considered, what the Christians in Europe have lost throughout the centuries can be found there: Faith, truth, brotherly love, and apostolic preaching with signs and wonders.

No Electricity? Now What?

A man testified about what God had done in his life: "I had an appointment at the hospital in Awasa. I arrived there, and when it was my turn, they rolled me into the operating room. Everything was ready. I was lying on the operating table, and just as the doctors were about to begin, the electricity was suddenly cut off in the whole city. (This is normal - almost everyday the electricity suddenly goes off. This particular hospital did not have a generator). No electricity - now what? As a result, they sent me home after having made another appointment.

I heard about the conference being held by the ACE - (United Pentecostal Church of Ethiopia) and ended up going there. There I received healing from Jesus Christ; now I do not have to return to the hospital anymore."

Brother Brehanu from Ethiopia (The costs and the reward of being a follower)

Have you already heard the name Brehanu? If you lived in Ethiopia, you most probably have. His name means light. When he was a young boy, Brehanu sang revolutionary songs in the youth organisation during the communist regime. He soon became the best singer in the country. The military gave him the job of being a singer, and on the side he also sang love songs. Brehanu became more and more famous and richer. One day, his wife invited our brother Tadele into the house to talk about the Bible. During the conversation, Brehanu entered into the room and began to listen to what was being said. After a while, his wife started to lose interest, however, Brehanu wanted to hear more about the Oneness of God — up until now, he had only heard about the doctrine of the Trinity.

After that, he wanted to find out more on the subject, and he ended up visiting a worship service in Addis Abeba. Brehanu continued with his singing career, however, a change had taken place in his life - he stopped drinking and he was no longer interested in many worldly activities and things. His wife was not very happy about the matter. One day, she told her husband that he would have to make a choice: "Either you stop going to church or I'll leave you if you don't." However, it was too late for anyone or anything to separate him from God. Brehanu had already made up his mind to follow Jesus Christ. He did not want to lose the peace and the joy which he was now experiencing.

One day, he visited Pastor Ajele and asked him; "What shall I do considering the fact that I'm a famous singer?" Pastor Ajele answered: "Be baptized in the name of Jesus, and God will show you what to do in your life." He was baptized. After the baptism, he disappeared and nobody knew where he was. The military searched for him on the grounds of being a deserter.

He worked secretly on a day to day wage basis so that he could buy something to eat. After a year, the government changed; the new government were no 1onger interested in him. His wife divorced him. Brehanu gave her the house, the car, and everything that he possessed. Now he sings to Jesus Christ in the church, in a choir comprising of 500 people. He no longer sings for the world. He exchanged his earthly riches for riches which will last forever. Brehanu has found the light - Jesus Christ. Have you also found the light? rw
