| Where
is the Jonah of Our Days?
                 Where
is the Jonah of our days? That's an important question that
we all need to ask each other. Jonah was a prophet from Israel
that the Lord had sent to preach to a gentile city. The name
of that city was Nineveh which was the capital of the Empire
of Assyria. Niniveh was a very sinful city, just like the city
                  of Sodom in their day.
The city of Nineveh is equal to the world today,
a sinful society of people, whose focus is often on worldly
things around them like money, prosperity, immorality, entertainment,
personal pride, and the focus is endless.
Jonah's response to the call of God was resentful.
He fled and wanted to escape God's call not realizing that one
cannot escape from the presence and call of God, for He in His
mercy and grace knew the response of the city of Nineveh. But
Jonah didn't, he was unsympathetic towards this city because
he thought that this city would deserve the destruction, and
God could be mercyful towards them. On his flight with a ship,
Jonah was swallowed by a big fish and was three days and three
nights in the belly of the fish. Then he spat him out on the
shore and this time Jonah was willing to go to Niniveh.
To Jonah’s surprise, the entire city repented
in sackcloth and ashes and the Lord restored the city instead
of bringing destruction to them. But this didn't change the
attitude of Jonah, he continued in his rejection, but God didn't
                  care!
There is a God in heaven that manifested Himself
in flesh and came down and died on our behalf at the cross of
Golgotha. His Name wasn't Jonah, it was Jesus and he was in
the belly of the grave for three days and nights, but His attitude
was love and compassion with mercy and grace just like He had
for the city of Nineveh, a gentile city.
The world today shouldn't experience the attitude
of Jonah, but the love of Christ that died for us all!
Matthew 12:39-41 But he answered and said
unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a
sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of
the prophet Jonah: For as Jonah was three days and three nights
in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days
and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh
shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn
it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and, behold,
a greater than Jonah is here.
