LET’S EAT AND DIE
1 Kings 17:8-24
Part 2 – Jesus praises a widow
|
Luke 4, 25-26 – KJV – “I assure you that there were many widows
in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a
half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet
Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in
the region of Sidon.”
The widow of Zarephath is somebody who rejoiced the heart of God.
God was pleased with her. There was something in her that caught God’s
attention and He was determined to bless her. If Jesus was talking
about her and praising her, it means that among all the widows of
that time, she marked her generation. She was not a widow like any
other one in the land. There was something in her that prompted God
to act on her behalf and use her as a sign for her time and for the
generations to come.
God
had allowed a situation to arise that would make her stick out: the
drought. If there had not been the severe drought, no one would have
noticed this woman of valour. She was a virtuous woman and the only
one in the land of Israel that was found worthy to care for the man
of God Elijah in this time of famine. God had allowed the pressure
she was undergoing to reveal how great was her faith and her love
for the God of Israel. She was a heathen and maybe she served Jeshua
in secret. God decided to advertise her and honour her faith. She
became popular in her town because God smiled on her and manifested
His glory and power through her. She was not just a poor and forgotten
widow as she thought. God decided to be strong and mighty in her weakness
and lifted her up.
The challenge you are facing must mark you among every body else and
cause the glory and power of God to be manifested through you. God
is not allowing that challenge in vain. It is for a purpose. Everything
we go through must work for our good when we love God (Romans 8, 28).
God is not desperate. He is the answer to everything we are going
through. He allows certain situations in order to reveal the gold
that we carry on the inside, so that we will be a blessing for the
nations. Be determine to do the best out of the situation you are
facing and allow God to be glorified through you.
Be determined to be the one that God will be proud of because of your
steadfastness in faith. And always remember that God is the rewarder
of those who diligently seek Him. Everything you invest for God and
in God can never be a waste. In due time He will open the windows
of heavens and bless you in such a way that you will not recognize
yourself. Never give up on God because He will never give up on you.
