Praying Intentionally
In
I Timothy 2:1, Paul writes to his beloved son in the gospel, Timothy,
giving him clear direction as a minister and as a Christian. “I
exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications prayers, intercessions,
and giving of thanks, be made for all men.” In an era where persecution
was taking place and with different moral issues arising in and around
the church, Paul was giving Timothy simple instruction, if we intend
to keep our eyes on Jesus, then before anything else, PRAYER must
be our focus.
We are bombarded with LIFE each and every day. From personal issues,
to family and even church issues. As Christians we have been commissioned
by Jesus Christ to be ambassadors of the gospel. It is simply impossible
to overcome issues and to be the ambassador if we have never built
a strong and stable prayer foundation in our lives.
Jesus wrote in Luke 18:1, “...that men ought always to pray, and
not to faint;”
Prayer is the way in which we connect to Jesus. If we fail to connect
daily in our lives to Jesus, we are failing to connect to the source
that powers our lives. Just as the living room lamp must be plugged
into a power source to be useful and to fulfill its purpose, if we
are to be a light to the world, there must be the daily connect that
we purposely connect to Jesus. My daily “God connect” changes everything.
It is the only way by which we align ourselves to His purpose and
His plan for our lives and for the church. It is impossible to be
Apostolic if daily we have not connected to the source of life. Paul
writes in Romans 8:6 “For to be carnally minded is death; but
to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
Our daily “God connect” is the only way by which the carnal man stays
on the altar, and the spiritual man can live. If there has been a
daily “God connect” in our lives, we won’t have to worry about family
issues. If there has been a daily “God connect” in our lives, we wont
have to worry about church splits. If there has been a daily “God
connect” there will be unity.
If there has been a daily “God connect” we won’t compare ourselves
to each other. If there has been daily “God connect” we won’t become
envious about the successes that our neighbor is having. If there
has been a daily “God connect,” the opportunity for sin to enter our
lives will not be possible. Everything in life revolves around our
daily “God connect,” because as long as our eyes are on Him, and our
ears are attentive to His voice, our focus will be clear and what
we do will become intentional. Rev Nathan Hulsman
