The Power of Truth
John 8:31-32 Then Jesus said to those Jews who
believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
What is the opposite of Evil? This may seem like a simple question,
but I believe it has a profound answer. This world’s philosophy would
say that Good would be the automatic response. However, I think that
scripture takes a different view.
Every
fairy tale tells us about the epic struggle of Good vs. Evil. Evil
threatens to overwhelm all that is Good. However, in the end, the
righteous warrior is victorious and the balance is restored. Eastern
philosophy talks about the balance of dark and light. The Hindus and
the Muslims believe in this balance as well. If you do enough good,
it will outweigh the bad and you will earn your salvation. Even the
Catholic church has let this doctrine seep into their seemingly Christian
institution.
It’s only the Word of God that tells us something different. In John
3:20, it talks about Evil. It says that everyone that does evil hates
the light and will not come into its brightness, lest his deeds should
be exposed and reproved.
It seems that the following scripture should talk about those that
do Good, no? However, it doesn’t. Verse 21 states that they that do
TRUTH will come into the light, so that it can been seen that his
works have been carried out by God.
Because, you see, there is no balance in this world for all the Evil.
But there is one unstoppable, overwhelming force that Evil cannot
withstand. That is the Power of Truth.
The one Truth that shows us how God came into the world as a man,
gave Himself as a sacrifice for all mankind and rose again victorious
over Sin, Death, and all that is Evil in this world.
There is no balance for Evil. It is only when we DO Truth, apply it
to our lives, that we are eligible for redemption from the evil that
controls this world. It’s what God carries out in us by the power
of this one profound Truth that in the end makes Evil not just balance
with Good, but crumble and fall. It was Jesus that told us if you
know the Truth, then the Truth will make you free. His blood is washed
over us through repentance and baptism, and His Spirit makes us free
every day from the wickedness of this world. This Truth will make
us free, indeed. Sister Amber Hackenbruch
