Bishop
Wayne Huntley preached the job for Jonah when Nineveh needed revival.
The Lord came to Jonah and said, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that
great city and cry..." (Jonah 1:2 KJV). Her citizens were
horribly wicked and destined for judgement. Yet, God was prepared to
rescue the perishing, if Jonah was willing to cry for the city. Certainly,
Jesus modeled this mentality when he cried, "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem...how
often would I have gathered thy children together..." (Matthew
23:37 KJV). No one among us can force faith into the hearts of a rebellious
people. However, all of us can cry for our cities with confidence that
God will hear us from Heaven, forgive our sins, heal our land and help
us capture our cities for Christ. So many of us have answered the call
to reach great cities and even great nations for the Kingdom of God.
In this unprecedented season of harvest, we must recognize that our
call was not just a call to teach, preach, evangelize, heal or even
baptize in Jesus Name. Yes, we are called to each of our cities for
each of these purposes and so much more. But the foundational call that
rings clearer now than ever before, is the call to go to that great
city where God has called you and cry.
Cry for the lost. Cry for the sin. Cry for the hurting. Cry
for revelation. Cry for revival. Rise up, cry out and God will show
up and reach out to every city represented/by each laborer He has called.
Arise, go to your great city and cry!
"Who hath heard such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall
the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born
at once? For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children"
(Isaiah 66:8 KJV). In the city where I serve, there has been a renewed
passion for intercession. Our programs have not changed, our talent
and our techniques have always remained consistent. Even still, we are
bringing forth spiritual children in greater numbers. The difference
maker for us is obvious: Zion is crying! Our church is crying for our
city. "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth
forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again
with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him" (Psalm 126:5-6
KJV). Not one of us should compare ourselves or our cities to others
as though we are lacking in the resources for revival. All of us can
cry. I cannot preach like some, but I can cry. I cannot plan like others,
but I can cry. I cannot purchase the property I need right now, but
I can cry. "Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer"
(Psalm 61:2). Give me my city. Give me my harvest, God. Hear my cry.
