Ruth 4:11-12 "And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. The Lord make the woman that is come into thine house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephratah, and be famous in Beth–lehem: And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which the Lord shall give thee of this young woman." This is a matter managed with dexterity and which receives praise from the witnesses. It is a day of great joy and blessings are overflowing from all sides. Boaz receives warm congratulations from all of the town's elders who attended this transaction. This day marks a climax in the life of Ruth and Boaz who knew how to wait patiently for their Heavenly Father to grant them the spouse with whom they would share their days. This waiting was not easy for both of them. As a mature and established man, Boaz who saw his friends getting married but could not yet find the woman of his dreams could have given in to the pressure. The waiting process was not easy and it took a lot of discernment for him not to embark on a union which in the end would have been a failure. Waiting had not been easy for Ruth the Moabite either, who in the name of the love she had for her mother-in-law Naomi, had accepted the loss of all thing and the stigma of a former idol worshiper. But it was worth it all. One of the primary lessons the Word of God teaches us is patience and perseverance in trials. No matter how much pressure we have over a wish or desire that has not yet come true, the Bible always recommends patience and perseverance. To this end we can read the following passages: Galatians 6:9 KJV "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Luke 21: 19 KJV "In your patience possess ye your souls." James 1:2-4 KJV "My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing." When patience has done its work perfectly in our lives, then blessings abound and we enjoy happiness. The elders of the city who witnessed the honest transaction between Boaz and his next of kin could not help but bless Boaz and Ruth who will become his wife. Both of them are an exemplary couple who, through perseverance in doing well, sincere love and self-sacrifice, have eternally inscribed themselves in the lineage of the King of kings. Ruth and Boaz are only reaping the rewards of their integrity and their friends are rejoicing with them by showering them with blessings. There is going to be a beautiful celebration. md |
