LET’S EAT
AND DIE
1 Kings 17:8-24
Part 3 – God’s plan will prevail
|
Psalm 118: 16-17 – KJV – “The right hand of the LORD is exalted:
the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. I shall not die, but live,
and declare the works of the LORD.“
Jeremiah 29:11 – ISV – „For I know the plans that I have for you,'
declares the LORD, 'plans for well-being, and not for calamity, in
order to give you a future and a hope.“
Ever
since God created mankind, His plans, thoughts and purposes have always
been to prosper us. Even before we were born, God already had good
thoughts towards His children. The widow of Sarepta had become so
desperate in her situation that she thought she was going to die with
her son. But God promises in His Word: “I will never leave you
and I will never abandon you.” (Deuteronomy 31:16, Hebrew 13:5).
But she could no longer see any remedy or rescue in her situation
and she was about to give up. She already had the scenario of death
in her mind, and it looked like this:
1. Gather two sticks
2. Cook the last meal
3. Eat it with my son
4. Lay down and die
God has a way of waiting until we become completely helpless before
He will step in and rescue us. We can see it in many stories of the
Bible, especially in the life of Lazarus, as Jesus purposely waited
for Lazarus to die before He would go and resurrect him. In everything
God does or allows us to pass through, there is lesson that He wants
us to learn: as long as we trust and love Him, there is nothing we
should be afraid of, because He is Lord over life and death. He has
the final say and nothing can defeat Him. So, the widow of Sarepta
had reached her darkest hour and that was the best moment for God
to step in. And His plan for her looked like this:
1. Care for Me and My servant first
2. Believe Me and obey My instructions
3. Watch My miracle for you
4. Live, rejoice and testify
There are some lessons that we can draw from the story of the widow
of Sarepta:
- Many are called but few are chosen.
- Not everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord has favour with
God.
- God is moved by the meek and humble in heart who cling to Him by
faith.
- In times of trouble there is a God who hears and answers when we
call, no matter the kind of challenge we are facing.
- God works in ways that blow our human minds. He chooses the weak
things of the world and those that are appear to be of no value to
perform great things and confound the “wise”.
- Nobody is forgotten in the sight of God. He sends deliverance in
His time, and God’s time is always the best.
- Never underestimate God’s power and ability. He is in the business
of surprising us when we put our trust in Him, and He can do much
more than what we think or ask.
Allow God’s plans and thoughts to prevail in your life today and you
also will stand and testify about the goodness of the Lord. mt
